I would suggest to play Sir Quackamore before playing this game.

Preface:

Death is not the end - not for Dimitri.

Once a self-proclaimed skilled Russian bomb defuser, thief, and servant to the mighty duck knight Sir Quackamore, Dimitri met his end at the blade of his master deep within the ancient Egyptian Temple of Bahrorata. But fate has a peculiar sense of humor.

In a realm where fantasy defies logic, Dimitri is reincarnated... as a garden snail.

Driven by vengeance and guided by the slimy instincts of his new form, Dimitri sets off from a quiet tomato garden on a bizarre yet epic journey - to face his killer, and perhaps settle the score. But the world is no place for a soft, slow snail - especially not one carrying a vendetta.

About the Game:

"Dimitri Returns" is a 2D action-platformer and a direct sequel to the chaotic cult hit "Sir Quackamore". In this fantasy-fueled continuation, players control Dimitri, now reincarnated as a slime-trailing garden snail, navigating a vibrant and dangerous world filled with oversized threats and mystic challenges.

Starting in a tranquil yet treacherous tomato garden swarming with aggressive rats, Dimitri must eat juicy tomatoes to charge up his Slime Power, which can be weaponized against foes. But the journey doesn't stop there - scattered across the landscape are time bombs left by Sir Quackamore. Dimitri must disarm them all to unlock the path forward and track down his former master.

From juicy gardens to explosive gauntlets, through fantasy realms and the surreal absurdity of snailhood, this is a revenge tale like no other.

Objective:

Reach and confront Sir Quackamore by surviving the hostile environment, disarming bombs, and defeating enemies using slime power.

How To:

  • Use single/double/triple jump to traverse platforming levels in the tomato garden. The longer you press the Jump Key the higher you reach.
  • Eat tomatoes to gain slime power. Avoid or defeat rats using slime attacks.
  • Locate and successfully defuse all time bombs. Defusing all bombs unlocks the path to Sir Quackamore.

Controls:

  • W / Up Arrow Key - To Jump
  • A / Left Arrow Key - Move Left
  • S / Down Arrow Key - Use Slime Power
  • D / Right Arrow Key - Move Right
  • Enter/ Space - For Progressing Dialogues
  • Esc - Back/Quit
  • Touch Controls for Mobile

Jams/Themes:

  • Trijam #335 (Reincarnated as a snail):
    • The core narrative twist - Dimitri returning as a garden snail - is both the driving force of the story and the foundation of all gameplay mechanics.
    • His snail body shapes the movement system (slower pace, triple jumps, etc.), resource gathering (eating tomatoes), and unique attack style (slime-based abilities).
    • The absurdity and vulnerability of a snail offer both humor and challenge, reflecting a satirical take on reincarnation tropes.
  • Awful Jam 2 (Fantasy):
    • The game world leans heavily into whimsical fantasy -
      • A tomato garden turned battlefield.
      • Mutant rats as organized enemies.
      • Talking animals, living slime, living tomatoes.
      • The surreal resurrection of a character via snail reincarnation.
      • Sir Quackamore remains a mythic figure - a duck knight with deadly flatulence and a sword of justice (or tyranny).
    • The mystical resurrection implies a magical world order where anything - even snails - can carry vengeance in their gooey little hearts. But will Dimitri get his revenge?

Why Multiple Jams?

You might ask why I participate and submit games in multiple jams at a time. The reason is, it gives more exposure to my games and also makes it more challenging for me to develop a game based on multiple Jam themes and rules.
